Is Part of True Success Finding the Joy in Your Work

In today's Be Inspired II article we see how an athlete who was given a death sentence by doctors not only beat the odds in a battle against cancer but went on to make what may well be the most dramatic comeback in sports history. There appear to be two significant factors in this story which we see repeated in so many success stories - he never gave up and he found his inspiration and his satisfaction in the work he did, not in the acclaim.

There is a lesson here for us all. Your work should be your ultimate reward. Those who find passion and reward in their work, not just in some reward for that work, are the most successful. If you love what you do you probably know this already. If you do not love what you do, maybe you should give some thought about that. Why live a life doing something you do not love? Why toil hours each day doing something that does not reward you every moment?

Title and Author:  Use Your Head to Get Your Foot in the Door by Harvey Mackay

Synopsis of Content:

The subtitle of this book is "Job Search Secrets No One Else Will Tell You". Published in 2010, in the midst of a faltering economy and multiyear recession this book gives solid advice to those seeking work and gives them hope.

Mackay, who has established himself as a knowledgeable thought leader and teacher provides a series of vignettes and chapters of advice for anyone hoping to keep their job or find a new one. He starts describing the telltale signs that you need to watch for when your job is endangered followed by strategies to save it. If you are terminated he discusses what to do and not do on your way out to improve your chances of re-employment.

He advises how to "reconstruct" your attitude to enable you to tackle the often difficult and defeating job of finding a new job. He teaches how to market yourself, discusses when further education may be the best answer, and offers tips on moonlighting and developing second and third skill sets. Included are survival tips for the unemployed including The Mackay Daily Planner for the Unemployed. He teaches how to improve your resume and how not to be distracted. He gives advice for the young job seeker, the middle ager and the older job seeker. Finally he discusses key skills to develop to get hired and stay employed as well as a list of great books to read for inspiration and advice.

Finding employment in a difficult economy is a struggle: first a struggle with yourself, and second a struggle with the forces that act to prevent you from succeeding. This book is a great place to start in a serious search for finding and maintaining employment.

Three Great Ideas You Can Use:

1. The most important goal to maintain employment is to make yourself indispensable to your employer.

2. Learn to face and control your emotions so that you do not defeat yourself.

3. There is more than one path to success - it may be about becoming an entrepreneur or a consultant, or it may be about being something that does not exist.  Break through barriers and go beyond where others stop.

Self Help Books - From Crappy to Happy

Book Review By Cheryl Cattarin

Look in any bookstore and you will notice the section on self help books keeps getting bigger. Self help books offer a variety of tools and techniques to help people learn life skills to improve the quality of their lives. At various times in life, most of us face some form of suffering, whether it is physical, mental or emotional. People faced with these issues have a variety of options for getting help.

They can seek help from medical or health care professionals; work on the issues by themselves through a process of self help; or they can practice a combination of both professional and self help approaches.

There are many reasons why people choose self help books. Perhaps sharing your concerns with a therapist or counselor may seem overwhelming. Being able to pick up a well structured self help book with clearly defined techniques may seem more manageable. Very often people start out with a self help book and experience personal growth as a result. Self help books train you to become more self aware and make meaningful changes to benefit your life. This is self empowerment at its best, when action follows theory.

It must be noted though, that not all problems can be resolved using self help books. There are some conditions that will require talking to a medical or health care professional for suitable outcomes to occur. Often a combination of both professional and self help approaches is best.

From Crappy To Happy is a self help book that focuses on improving the quality of your life one step at a time. It is easy to read and suitable for anyone 16 years and up. Transitioning from crappy to happy take time, it is a journey not a destination. As you take the journey through the book you will learn how to let go of limiting beliefs that sabotage your success and prosperity. You will learn to create your own self help plan for new intentions, goals and dreams AND how to connect with and use your inner wisdom to discover your highest potential. Increased happiness and well being come about as a result of practicing the techniques in this book.

Cheryl Cattarin has worked in the Personal Development field for over twenty years. Cheryl has taught thousands of people a specific set of skills to improve the quality of their lives. These skills are now outlined in her just released book "From Crappy To Happy" available at http://www.fromcrappytohappy.com

Be Inspired II by Roger Thomas Lincoln

In 1996 he was on top of the world. He was ranked as the #7 cyclist in the world and had just signed a $600,000 contract with France's Team Cofidis. His only problem was a persistent soreness in his groin. After some procrastination he saw a doctor and was diagnosed with testicular cancer.

After surgery the situation grew worse. Tumors spread to his abdomen, lungs and lymph nodes. He began aggressive chemotherapy. He was told he had a 65% chance of survival. Then tumors were found in his brain and the prognosis fell to 2%. To keep him positive his doctors did not tell him about the 2% and ordered more surgery and more chemo. After brain surgery and more chemotherapy he beat the odds and survived. He was declared cancer free in 1997.

Meanwhile Team Codifis cancelled his contract and he struggled to regain his place in the world of competitive cycling. He obtained a contract with the US Postal Service team for $200,000. He then spent a year getting back into competitive shape. He took 4th place in the World Road Race Championship and won several other races.

In the summer of 1999 he won the 2274 mile Tour de France by more than seven minutes. He averaged a record breaking 25 miles per hour. He had become only the second American to win the Tour de France. Lance Armstrong went on to win the Tour de France again in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005! - Seven consecutive victories. It may well have been the biggest comeback in sports history.
